cartier As many readers are aware, the iconic ring was originally worn by Princess Diana (then Lady Diana Spencer). It was her engagement ring as well. But that wasn’t Kate’s only jewelry on the day her engagement to Prince William was formally announced. The Duchess-to-be was also wearing jewelry by a U.S. brand, Tiffany & Co.

The Tiffany Elsa Peretti Color by the Yard necklace and earrings worn on the day of Kate Middleton’s official announcement of her engagement to Prince William, were she wore the infamous Issa London blue wrap dress are Lapis Lazuli Cabochon not Sapphires, set in a Bezel Pendent Setting on both earrings and necklace’s. Peretti commonly sets semi precious and regular Diamonds in a Channel-set Bezel Link like the two diamonds on side of the necklace and on the earring post, the reissued necklace is the same as the original necklace; the earrings however, were not reissued, just as a Lapis Lazuli Cabochon stud earrings minus the Diamond earring post like on the original dangle style earrings. Also Peretti with the exception of plain regular Diamonds does not use Precious stones like Sapphires. http://www.tiffany.co.uk/Shopping/Item.aspx?sku=27906168&mcat=148206&cid=288187&fromGrid=1&search_params=s+5-p+6-c+288187-r+201297647-x+-n+6-ri+-ni+0-t+#p+11-n+6-cg+viewPaged-c+288187-s+5-r+201297647-t+-ri+-ni+0-x+-pu+-f+

My bad the version that Kate Middleton has, or the Duchess of Cambridge is clearly a bespoke piece instead of Lapis Lazuli the earrings and center stone are Sapphire’s. However, if you were to buy the necklace it would be Lapis Lazuli.

I notice Kate doesn’t seem to wear a lot of jewelry, even when photographed at major events in evening gowns. Princess Diana had many spectacular pieces of jewelry that she wore often, and we know the Queen loans jewelry to family members for special occasions. Camilla frequently wears jewels and a tiara larger than the Queen’s. But Kate’s taste seems more understated. I can’t help but wonder if she avoids the mega-bling because of the economy, or is it because she didn’t grow up in a world where “dressing for dinner” involved wearing jewels by the pound.
